Candles from where you’ve been

When Bronwyn from Ryan and Co Candles came to show us her wares it was pretty clear her product was a fit with the idea of ‘slow’ that we’re all about at Pekho.
Firstly, they’re hand-poured just down the highway in Bunbury, so the kilometres travelled to reach us are minimal.
Secondly, Bronwyn uses recycled wine and beer bottles, cut off and sanded in her own workshop, as vessels for her 100 per cent soy wax candles. Many of them are sourced from cellar doors and restaurants down south. The timber lids are carved by hubby out of recycled pine fencing. She uses clean and simple labels, so the whole product looks recycled but attractive – not an easy combo to get right!
As well as being non-paraffin based, Ryan and Co candles are cleverly named for place rather than aroma. So you have fragrances called Yallingup Hills, Boranup Mist or Evenings in Margaret River, say, to commemorate your trip down south. Or Southern Ocean or Torbay Mist if you’ve been on the south coast. Or Mountain Grey if it’s Yarra Valley you’re needing a whiff of.
Bronwyn makes to order for various parts of the country, and it’s a niche our customers have really responded to. If you’re after a bit of ‘slow’ in olfactory form, this could be it.
